Town's pre-season schedule got underway on Friday night as Sheffield Wednesday ran out 2-0 winners at The EnviroVent Stadium.
First half goals from Josh Windass and Michael Smith proved too much for Town to come back from as Simon Weaver took the opportunity to field a different XI each half.
New arrivals Pete Jameson, Miles Welch-Hayes, Jaheim Headley, Stephen Dooley, Kyle Freguson and Matty Daly all featured in Town's first half XI.
The League One side took just eight minutes to score the opening goal as former Harrogate Railway forward Josh Windass curled brilliantly into the top right corner.
It was nearly two minutes later as Michael Smith found space on the counter attack, but saw his low finish clip the inside of both posts before bouncing clear.
Just after the half hour mark Wednesday were given the chance to double their lead from the spot when Kyle Ferguson was judged to have brought down Dennis Adeniran, allowing Michael Smith to calmly convert.
The new look Town XI showed glimpses during an otherwise frustrating 45, with Headley's cross that flashed in front of goal the brightest moment.
There were 11 pre-planned changes for Town at the break, with Mark Oxley, Warren Burrell, George Thomson, Lewis Richards, Jack Muldoon, George Horbury, Emmanuel Ilesanmi and four trialists entering the action.
The second half took a while to get into it's rhythm with George Byers having the first effort on goal, though Oxley made a good save diving to his left.
Town responded with a shot on target of their own as Muldoon's run in behind was found by one of Town's four second half trialists, though David Stockdale saved with his legs.
Muldoon curled a low shot wide late on, with his earlier chance the closest Town would come to finding the back of the net, with Tuesday night's clash with Rotherham at The EnviroVent Stadium next for Weaver's new look side.
