Town 0-0 Gillingham - Town add another point in Gillingham stalemate

04/03/23

Harrogate Town put in a strong performance and created many chances to win the game, but couldn’t find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw with Gillingham at The Envirovent Stadium.

Simon Weaver had named an unchanged side from Tuesday nights draw to Northampton with Alex Pattison and Joe Mattock returning to the bench.

Gillingham were the first to strike the ball towards goal, firing over the bar within a minute of kick off, though Town responded with a shot of their own, with Luke Armstrong’s header just going wide after a pinpoint cross from Toby Sims.

After an edgy start, Town start to gain momentum with two chances in a header from Jack Muldoon which was emphatically blocked on the goal line by the Gills. Town then followed up a minute later with a powerful attempt from Kazeem Olaigbe which narrowly escaped the post.

The rest of the half was had few chances, but they predominantly fell for Town. A run down the left-hand side and shot from Levi Sutton was blocked by the keeper.

Town came out strong after the restart with another shot from Muldoon deflected however, the keeper was able to get there to make the save and keep the game at 0-0.

A few minutes later in the game Mark Oxley was forced to make a stunning save after an unexpected volley from outside of the area.

Towards the closing stages, Tom Eastman made a great sliding interception from a lethal attempt on goal by the Gills to stop Town from conceding in the later stages of the game.

In the final minute of the game, Olaigbe’s strike was Town’s last attempt on target which unfortunately couldn’t find the back of the net, which finnished the game at 0-0.
